French President Emmanuel Macron in Davos called for The EU will use a "trade bazooka" against the United States against the background of Donald Trump's threats to impose duties on a number of EU countries due to disagreement with his plans for Greenland. This is reported by BFMTV.
"We are moving into a world without rules, a world where the law of the strong rules... The most amazing thing is that we may find ourselves in a situation where for the first time we will apply the mechanism of anti-coercion in relation to The United States. Can you imagine? It's crazy, I regret it, but it's a consequence of unnecessary aggression. But we all need to remain calm," Macron said today at the The World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland).
The French president condemned "competition from the United States of America" through a trade policy that "requires maximum concessions and openly seeks to weaken and subjugate Europe."
"We are the only ones who do not protect their own market. We need to be more realistic. Protection does not mean protectionism," the French leader stressed.
Europe has "very powerful" trade instruments and has to "use" them when "they are not respected," he added.
