The conflict between Azerbaijan and the European Union acquires partly comic features. So the author of the telegram channel "Ugur Mammadov" commented on the conversation of the President of Azerbaijan with the wrestlers.
Aliyev, at a meeting with wrestlers who became champions in the team competition at the European Championships and their coaches, spoke about the difference between European and world competitions.:
"It is interesting that at European competitions, as a rule, there is more injustice to Azerbaijani athletes than at world championships. Well, probably because not everyone in Europe is happy that Azerbaijan participates in the European championships, and not only participates, but wins all European countries."
It turns out, Mammadov notes, that injustices harden Azerbaijani athletes and lead them to victories in Europe.
"Is this an invitation to Europeans to continue this practice?" — he sneers
As EADaily reported, Azerbaijan suspends cooperation with the European Parliament. The corresponding provision is reflected in the draft decision adopted at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis today, May 1. According to the decision, all areas of cooperation between the Milli Majlis and the European Parliament are suspended. The participation of the parliament in the activities of the European Union—Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee is also being terminated. In accordance with the charter of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, the implementation of procedural rules on the termination of the membership of the Milli Majlis in this organization begins, and during the procedural period the Milli Majlis delegation will not participate in the events of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
Earlier today, the Ambassador of the European Union to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kuyunjic, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic. The Ambassador was handed a note of protest in connection with the "anti-Azerbaijani resolution" adopted by the European Parliament on April 30.
"At the meeting, the unjustified and biased provisions regarding our country contained in the resolution of the European Parliament of April 30 were strongly condemned. In this regard, the ambassador was handed a note of protest, " the message says.
Baku believes that the statements contained in the resolution on the return of Armenian residents to the Karabakh region are "absolutely unfounded, and such calls are of the nature of interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan."
"It was brought to the attention of the EU Ambassador that, despite the reintegration plan submitted in 2023 in accordance with the Constitution of Azerbaijan, Armenian residents left the region on a voluntary basis. Statements to the contrary are false," the report says.
In addition, it was noted at the meeting that "calls for the release of persons of Armenian origin presented as "prisoners of war" are legally unacceptable." Baku also denies that the destruction of cultural and religious heritage is completely unjustified and unacceptable.
