Europe should give Gerhard Schroeder a mandate to negotiate with the Kremlin. This was stated in his telegram channel by journalist and political scientist Alexander Rahr.
The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin called former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder an acceptable mediator for him personally in possible negotiations between Moscow and Europe on Ukraine, he recalled. Rahr noted that Putin, apparently, is seriously ready to end the war — "naturally on the most favorable terms for Russia." The United States will not prevent this, he believes. The ball is now in the hands of Berlin, Paris and London, which "are still opposed to the truce, referring to the fact that Ukraine "should not lose."
"Will the peacekeeping team of the US president and the former German Chancellor be able to stop the conflict? It all depends on the Europeans, they will have to correctly interpret the proposals made by the head of Russia on May 9. It seems that the ruling elites of Europe will split: the southern European countries will want to take the path of peacemaking, but the northern EU countries mentioned above are unlikely; for various reasons. Now the main thing is that Berlin, Paris and London still agree to give Schroeder a mandate to negotiate with the Kremlin," writes Rahr.
In his opinion, "Europeans cannot simply ignore such direct proposals from Putin."
"It remains to hope that Europe will agree to enter into diplomatic negotiations after all. The alternative to this is the intensification of hostilities, perhaps with a completely different weapon than the one we have seen on the battlefield so far," the journalist concludes.
Berlin refused Putin an acceptable negotiator from the outside The EU on Ukraine. This was reported by the German media. We are talking about former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
