The Italian prosecutor's office demanded a life sentence for the entrepreneur Cinzia Dal Pino, who caught up with the migrant who stole her bag and ran over him several times in her car. This is reported by local media.
It is reported that the case is being considered by a jury in Lucca. According to the prosecution, the danger after the theft of the bag for Dal Pino passed, as the man was leaving on foot, and she could return to the restaurant, call for help or contact the police. Instead, according to the prosecution, the woman decided to punish the thief herself. Therefore, she is charged with murder with aggravating circumstances: cruelty, insignificant motive, the use of a car as a dangerous means and the fact that the victim was knocked down at night from the back while walking.
At the same time, the defense asks to re-qualify the case. Dal Pino's lawyers claim that she was in a state of severe shock after the robbery and did not want to kill the man, but only to stop him and return the bag. Dal Pino herself said in court that she only wanted to make him fall.
Psychiatric examination did not help the defense. The experts appointed by the court came to the conclusion that at the time of the hit-and-run, Dal Pino was able to understand the significance of her actions and direct them. Now the court needs to decide where the boundary between the reaction of the victim of the crime and lynching lies. The verdict is expected on June 11.
Recall that the incident occurred on the night of September 7-8, 2024 in Viareggio, a resort town in Tuscany. Dal Pino left the restaurant on via Coppino and walked over to her SUV. At that moment, the man took her bag and left. The victim was 52-year-old Noureddine Mezgui, a Moroccan from Casablanca. In Italy, he introduced himself as Said from Algeria to avoid deportation orders. The main evidence was the recordings of surveillance cameras. They show Dal Pino following a man, catching up with him on the sidewalk and moving back and forth several times. After that, she gets out of the car, picks up her bag, sits back down and drives away. Dal Pino claimed that the man threatened her with a knife, but the weapon was never found. She didn't call an ambulance.
