The Japanese Government may send its Navy to clear the Strait of Hormuz or escort civilian vessels passing through it after an agreement has been reached between the United States and According to the official position of the Japanese Cabinet of Ministers on this issue, which was reviewed by the Kyodo news agency, there are strong communication channels between Tokyo and Tehran.

At the same time, it is noted that in the current conditions, the use of the Japanese navy in this region is extremely unlikely.

The position also assumes the direction of the country's Navy only with a significant reduction in the threat of resumption of hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the agency, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi outlined this approach to his colleagues from the G7 countries during a collective video conference on May 13.

At the same time, according to these data, preparations are underway in Japan for a possible referral to Strait of Hormuz minesweepers. The United States is reportedly pinning hopes on Tokyo's significant capabilities in this area. In Tokyo, there is also a proposal to divide the Strait of Hormuz area after the ceasefire into separate areas of responsibility, over which the Japanese Navy could take part, Kyodo notes, citing TASS excerpts.

As reported, in April, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan officially invited the government to study the issue of sending minesweepers to clear the Strait of Hormuz after reaching a ceasefire agreement there. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and members of her cabinet made it clear during the debate in parliament that they did not rule out such an option. Now, according to Kyodo, this position has been officially approved.
