Yesterday, June 27, was the hottest day in the history of observations in many federal states of Germany. In Berlin, a new record was 39.9°C, and the highest temperature in the country was recorded in the town of Mekern-Drewitz in Saxony-Anhalt — there the thermometer rose to 41.5 ° C.

Bavaria, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and other lands — everywhere the maximum temperature was 40-41 ° C or even higher.

The heat has already led to a number of incidents, including fatal ones: several people drowned in reservoirs in different parts of Germany. In addition, in Leipzig, the movement of trams was suspended until Monday due to damage to the tracks and arrows by high temperature. An emergency field hospital for patients with overheating has been deployed in Cologne.

Today, new temperature records can be set: the air can warm up to 42 ° C. It is expected that the extreme heat will recede only on Monday.
