A "young black" bear entered a shopping mall at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base near Anchorage, Alaska. He stopped by the barbershop, got to the grocery store, tasted a peach and left the building.

According to the Alaskasnewssource portal, the incident occurred in the morning when there were already visitors in the shopping center.

"The bear was captured on video when he went into the cafeteria, where he took a peach for himself, left some excrement in the corridor and finally left the building," the report says.

As wildlife conservation manager Colette Brandt told reporters, the beast entered the building through automatic doors. The bear passing in front of the building got into the area of the sensor and opened the automatic sliding doors of the shopping complex.

Arriving wildlife service personnel directed him towards Ship Creek, and then further into the forest.

"We can confirm that no one was injured, including the bear itself," said the director of public relations of the 673rd Airbase Support Wing, Major Carly Costello of the US Air Force.

The joint base Elmendorf-Richardson occupies about 26 thousand hectares and directly borders on the wildlife of Alaska.

More than 30 thousand military personnel, civilian specialists and their family members serve, work and live here. The base houses the headquarters of the 11th US Air Force and units of the 11th Airborne Division

In May 2026, the old dumpsters at the base were replaced with reinforced models with thick steel walls, connected lids and spring-loaded locks. After that, the number of calls due to bears decreased. However, over the past year, seven animals had to be destroyed after they got used to looking for food near people and were recognized as a threat to public safety.
