India reacted to Musk's accusations

The New Daily rejects the unfounded claims of Elon Musk about the "discrimination" of Starlink. This was stated by the Indian Minister of Communications Jothiraditya Sindia, thereby answering the question of an American entrepreneur why Starlink, which has licenses in more than 165 countries, has not yet received the necessary permits to launch services in India.

Earlier, the billionaire wrote on social networks that "the oligarchs in this country are blocking our company in order to protect their commercial interests."

"India does not allow monopolies in any sector. Currently, all three companies that previously received satellite communications licenses are at the same stage of regulation, awaiting permission from the Ministry of the Interior to launch these commercial services," The Economic Times quoted the minister's statement.

As Sindia noted, the companies — Starlink, Reliance Jio and Eutelsat OneWeb will be able to start working after the government determines the system of payment for the use of the communication spectrum based on income and their compliance with security requirements. According to him, Starlink, like two other companies, has received permission to use satellite communications from the Indian space regulator, but cannot start commercial activities until the necessary procedures are completed.

As reported, the Indian authorities have been considering Musk's proposal to launch Starlink in the country since 2021, when SpaceX established its branch in the republic to provide mobile satellite system services for high-speed broadband Internet access. In early July 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers of India issued Starlink a preliminary license, which opened up opportunities for SpaceX to start commercial activities in the country after its obligations to comply with Indian national security laws. At the beginning of 2026 New Delhi rejected the application of an American company to deploy a second-generation satellite network due to non-compliance with security requirements and due to Starlink's intention to use frequency bands banned in India. In August, the company submitted the application again.
