Russian General Sergei Surovikin, who is called "General Armageddon," was returned to Moscow on the eve of a change in the tactics of the war in Ukraine, The Telegraph writes today, October 8.

The publication says that in the winter Russia may change tactics and intensify attacks on the critical infrastructure of Kiev, in particular on bridges across the Dnieper.

According to the author of the publication, the Russian offensive in the Donbas has been facing serious difficulties for several months, and therefore Surovikin has been involved.

This publication was commented on by a veteran of Wagner, the author of the Condottiero telegram channel.

"The Telegraph newspaper reports that General Surovikin has returned to command of troops in the SMO zone, and he has been tasked with destroying bridges and facilities in Kiev. Scoring throw-in. We continue to observe. Sergey Vladimirovich, while at the VVC, as they say," Condottiero writes.

He also announced on September 16 that Surovikin had returned from Africa.

"General Surovikin is in Moscow. The VVC is being held. The service in Algeria is over. Admirers of Sergey Vladimirovich's talents are talking about an imminent appointment. The detractors slander that he will be dismissed to the reserve and retired. The general will be only 60 years old on October 11. The very age for big things," wrote Condottiero.

In 2022, Surovikin became the head of the Aerospace Forces, and after that he was appointed commander of the joint grouping of troops in the SMO area. It is he who is credited with the beginning of the massive bombing of the military and logistics infrastructure of Ukraine with the help of missiles and kamikaze UAVs. In 2025, the NYT reported that it was only thanks to Surovikin that the Ukrainian Armed Forces abandoned plans for an amphibious landing in Crimea. The whole point, according to their data, is intercepted radio conversations, in which, allegedly, Surovikin said that "if they climb," he would give the order to strike the TNW. According to Tsargrad, the information then reached US President Joe Biden, and he "forbade Kiev such adventures so that the war would continue."
