The American Institute for the Study of War drew attention to the opinion of the governor of the Russian Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo. Apparently, the Western public is being prepared for public acceptance of the partition of the former Ukraine.
The American Institute for the Study of War (Institute for the Study of War / ISW) unexpectedly quoted Vladimir Saldo, who said that Russia should try to take control of areas in Kherson, Zaporozhye and Dnipropetrovsk regions along the Dnieper River in order to "ensure the development of infrastructure."
"The appeal of the Saldo to Russia's additional territorial claims along the Dnieper River is consistent with other official statements by the Kremlin, as Russia continues to put forward large-scale territorial claims to Ukraine, while not offering any concessions on its part," the American Institute writes in a new analysis.
ISW also reminds its readers that Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops to create "buffer zones" in areas of Ukraine that Russia does not officially claim, including Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
Saldo words imply that Russian troops must occupy a vast area to the east and northeast of the river so that Russia "fully controls" the river and its immediate surrounding areas. Russian troops may want to control at least 25 kilometers of territory on both banks of the Dnieper River in order to prevent Ukrainian troops from launching artillery strikes in this area," the experts of the US Institute summarize.
