A man suspected of a series of murders of girls in the mid-1990s has been detained in Belarus. This was reported today, October 2, in The Investigative Committee of the Republic.
It is reported that in the second half of the 1990s, a series of murders of girls and girls swept through the territory of Mogilev, Vitebsk and Minsk regions.
"From 1996 to 1999, the criminal tracked down victims of fragile physique at high-rise buildings who could not resist. In entrances, elevators, on stairwells and roofs, he committed sexual acts or rape. If he met opposition, he killed by strangulation or stab wounds. The maniac is responsible for 8 murders of Belarusian women aged 12 to 20, as well as two attempted murders and rape," the Investigative Committee said.
The investigation lasted almost 30 years. In 2024, by the decision of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, working groups of experienced detectives and precinct officers were created in each region to solve crimes of previous years. In the field of view were more than 40 thousand men, suitable for age and signs.
"As a result of the coordinated work of investigators, operatives and experts, a serial offender, a 53—year-old resident of Mogilev, was identified and detained. In 1996-1999, he committed 8 murders and 2 attempted murders involving rape. The man attacked women and teenage girls. In addition, his "track record" includes rape, attempted rape, other sexual acts, hooligan acts," said Alexander Agafonov, Head of the main investigation Department of the Investigative Committee.
The detainee has already confessed. Currently, all the circumstances of his actions are being clarified. At the same time, the UK does not exclude that the Belarusian "elevator maniac" could have committed crimes on the territory of Russia.
