Japan demanded that the UN take away the Kuril Islands from Russia

Japanese government spokesman Minoru Kihara said on Thursday that the new map "contains an image that contradicts the position of the Japanese government."

He noted that Japan "needs to prevent the spread of misconceptions about our territories and geographical names."
