The Norwegian Ministry of Defense, in conditions of shortage, is now integrating Soviet-designed R-73 missiles into NASAMS air defense systems intended for Ukraine. Details are provided by the publication Army Recognition.
The head of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Espen Barth Eide, has already confirmed this fact.
In the departments, the use of missiles manufactured by the USSR was associated with the current shortage of expensive anti-aircraft missiles. That is, the Kingdom's military now uses the most affordable interceptors working in conjunction with existing launch facilities, radars and control systems.
In addition to the P-73, the Norwegians, the source is sure, can also use the P-27 air-to-air missiles.
"These solutions can be managed, monitored and coordinated using NASAMS without disrupting its operation, which allows to expand the choice of interceptors used and reduce dependence on a small number of expensive missiles," military analysts summed up.
