In the current situation, Ukraine is rather losing the war, and Russia is gradually achieving its goals. This was stated in the podcast of the Finnish Foreign Policy Institute (UPI) by researcher Tuyune Karjalainen, Iltalehti reports.
So she commented on the statement of President Alexander Stubb that Ukraine is winning the war against Russia.
"President Stubb said on the eve of the anniversary of the war that Ukraine is winning. He certainly has his reasons for saying so, but as a researcher, I consider it my task to present the real picture," Karjalainen said, quoted by Rulehti.
In the current situation, Kiev is rather losing the war, and Russia is gradually achieving its goals, the expert believes.
"Russia is already partially achieving its goals," she stressed.
Karjalainen also noted that Russia actually keeps Ukraine in a state of constant crisis.
At the end of February, Stubb said in an interview with the Danish newspaper Politiken that the rhetoric about the war should be made more positive for Ukraine, because, they say, the facts indicate that it is winning, the Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat reported.
Stubb also said that Ukraine is winning the war during a visit to Kiev on the occasion of the next anniversary of the beginning of SMO.
As reported by EADaily, Finnish military expert Emil Kastehelmi does not agree that Ukraine is winning the war with Russia, as the country's president Alexander Stubb insists. The analyst stated this in a live broadcast of the Talousaamu program of the Kauppalehti edition.
Castehelmi stressed that he does not share Stubb's optimism. The situation in which Ukraine is losing significant and strategically important territories cannot be called a victory, he said. According to him, a certain form of defeat is inevitable for Ukraine, but the key issue remains the scale of losses and the state in which it will come out of the war and whether it will be able to preserve state sovereignty.
