A large-scale protest action has engulfed the capital of Armenia. Supporters of the former President of the Republic Robert Kocharyan organized a procession of thousands through the streets of Yerevan. According to RIA Novosti, a rally was held on Freedom Square before that.
The event is timed to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Transcaucasia, which are scheduled for June 7.
The participants of the action called on citizens to vote for the "Armenia" electoral bloc. A column of demonstrators marched through the central thoroughfares of the city.
At the same time, tension is growing in the political camp of the Armenian opposition. Representatives of the Strong Armenia party demanded that their supporters be immediately released. They were detained after an incident that occurred during the campaign of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the Tashir district of Lori region during the election campaign.
