Zelensky told Abramovich to give him his money. The Guardian writes about this.

During a recent meeting in Kiev, which, as it turned out, took place in May 2026, Zelensky admitted that he jokingly told Abramovich:

"He didn't bring the money. I told him, 'We need your money.'"

As the newspaper notes, Zelensky wants to use these funds not only for humanitarian needs. He proposed to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to send £2.4 billion for the purchase of American anti-missile systems for the air defense of Ukraine.

Zelensky argues that Russia started the war, so it is logical to use "Russian money" to protect against missile strikes.

"They (missiles) are very expensive, and, of course, this money can help... why not use Russian money?" he said.

Despite Abramovich's promise, these funds remain frozen in a special account in Britain from 2022. Transmission is blocked for two reasons:

  • Abramovich refuses to sign an agreement on the transfer of funds;
  • As a counter condition, he demands to stop investigations against him and unblock other assets.;
  • The British authorities insist that the money go exclusively to help Ukraine. Abramovich also proposes to send them to the fund for "all victims" of the conflict, including victims in Russia.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured Zelensky that his government is "doing everything possible" to resolve this issue, although he admitted that the situation is difficult. At the same time, British officials are already preparing for a possible lawsuit against Abramovich if he does not transfer funds voluntarily.
