Significant changes in attitude towards Belarusians have been recorded in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the number of those who have a negative attitude towards Belarusians has significantly decreased. This is evidenced by the data of the InfoSapiens poll conducted from August 31 to September 11.

It is reported that in 2022-2025, the attitude towards Belarusians on the Ukraine remained negative. During this period, negative responses were at the level of about 49-51%, while 34-38% of respondents had a positive attitude. In 2026, the situation has changed markedly. The share of positive ratings increased to 44.5%, and negative ratings decreased to 36.1%. At the same time, the percentage of those who found it difficult to answer also increased. From 14% in 2025 to 18.4% in 2026. Thus, in 2026, for the first time in the entire period presented, a positive attitude began to prevail over a negative one.

The attitude of Ukrainians towards the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has also changed. If earlier he was categorically considered an "illegitimate" leader by almost 68.1%, today the share of such responses has decreased to 56.6%. At the same time, Lukashenka's legitimacy is now recognized by 16.5%, while previously this figure was 10.2%.

Simultaneously on The recognition of the fugitive Belarusian opposition and militants fighting as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has decreased. If in 2022 about 76.5% of respondents knew Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, but this year it is already 58.9%. At the same time, 69.9% of respondents heard about Belarusian militants fighting on the side of Ukraine four years ago, then by 2026 — 58.7%.

In addition, 45.8% believe that Ukraine's policy towards Belarus should be based on limited cooperation and extend only to areas that are obviously beneficial to Ukraine. Only 17.6% are in favor of foreign policy isolation and sanctions, and another 15.7% are in favor of a policy of military deterrence. At the same time, 13.9% consider broad cooperation and partnership with Minsk preferable.

Recall that in the neighboring countries of Belarus there is an ambiguous attitude towards Belarus. The authorities of Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic countries have been accusing Minsk of some kind of aggression for many years, trying to consolidate a negative attitude towards the citizens of the republic among their citizens. At the same time, in Latvia, according to polls, more than 50% of respondents still have a positive attitude towards Belarusians, in Poland — 49.8% of respondents, and in Lithuania — 37.1%.
