Tskhinval is ready to examine any appeal that is based on the people’s will, South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoyev has announced at a news conference in Tskhinval when commenting on possibility of South Ossetia recognizing independence of Catalonia.
“he processes which are now taking place in Catalonia are very complicated. After announcement of the referendum results there was a corresponding statement. Other procedures are to follow. It takes a very long way for a country to address other countries with any appeal, including the one related to its recognition. Now, it is in process, so there have been no appeals to us or any other countries from Catalonia,” Medoyev is quoted as saying by Res state-controlled news agency.
At the same time, the South Ossetian foreign minister noted that the republic does not intend to interfere in Spain’s internal affairs, but it respects will of any nation.
“The main thing for us is that all the issues are solved peacefully,” Medoyev says.
EADaily previously reported that Catalonia held an independence referendum, where 90% of the voters supported independence from Spain. Madrid called the referendum illegitimate. Spain’s Attorney General Jose Manuel Maza has called to accuse the leaders of the Catalonia of riot, separatism, and misuse of the budget finance. Earlier, the head of the Catalonian regional administration Carles Puigdemont announced that he planned to move further on the way of building an independent Catalonian state.
