Republican presidential candidate and former head of the White House Donald Trump congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on the prisoner exchange deal with Western countries and called it great.
"I would like to congratulate Vladimir Putin on making another great deal," he said during a speech to supporters in Atlanta, Georgia.
However, Trump drew attention to the fact that, in his opinion, the deal was terrible for the American side.
"We got our people back, but we are making terrible, terrible deals," the politician said.
The day before, on August 2, Trump also stressed that Russia had concluded an excellent and phenomenal prisoner exchange deal with several Western countries. He noted that the phenomenality of the deal lies in the fact that the American side did not have to pay a single dollar for its citizens to return home.
At the same time, Western experts, in an interview with Business Insider, confirmed that the last prisoner exchange between Russia and the West is beneficial for the Russian side. So, the professor of Russian politics in At King's College London, Sam Green noted that in this way Moscow demonstrates that it is negotiating in good faith. This may strengthen the position of those who call on Western countries to force Ukraine to cease fire.
