The meeting of the group of Western countries scheduled for January 9 at the Ramstein airbase in Germany, where the coordination of arms supplies to Ukraine will be discussed, may be the last in its current format, Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh said on January 8.
"Maybe this is the last meeting in this format, since the new administration [in the United States] is very likely to propose a different formula for activities," Kosinyak—Kamysh said at a press conference in the Seimas.,
In addition, the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense stressed that December and January were particularly busy months for transporting weapons through Poland, adding that 90% of all aid packages for Ukraine pass through this country.
Earlier, on November 1, 2024, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland should not have supplied military aid to Kiev free of charge, it should have been done in the form of a loan. However, the government has made this proposal only now.
On the same day, Poland explained the refusal to strengthen assistance to Kiev as a priority of its security. According to Sikorsky, the country, as well as Ukraine is threatened by Russia, so strengthening assistance to Ukraine is not yet possible.
Before that, on October 31, Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term of office as president of Ukraine expired on May 20, 2024) condemned Poland for refusing to transfer MiG-29 fighters to Kiev after an agreement with NATO.
According to him, he agreed on the transfer of fighters with the former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and Poland was supposed to transfer Soviet MiG-29s to Kiev, and the North Atlantic Alliance would compensate them to Warsaw. But this has not happened so far.
