More than 50 houses were destroyed in a fire in Drammen in southern Norway, the police evacuated hundreds of people, there is no information about the victims. This is reported by the Polish radio station RMF24.
Radio calls the fire "catastrophic."
According to Reuters, more than fifty houses were destroyed in the residential area of Krok Stadelva in Drammen, a city located about 40 km southwest of the Norwegian capital Oslo.
"The fire broke out on Friday afternoon in a residential area with terraced houses. The fire instantly spread from one building to another. Firefighters suffered greatly from the strong wind. Thick black smoke enveloped the entire area. Helicopters participated in fire operations. There are no reports of casualties or missing persons," RMF24 reports.
Public broadcaster NRK reports that one firefighter suffered non-fatal injuries and was taken to hospital. According to NRK, explosions were heard in the area of the fire, in connection with which hundreds of residents were evacuated.
It is still unknown what caused the fire, the Polish radio station notes. Firefighters are still at the scene.
