"A White House spokesman said the call had already begun. Putin spoke from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, while Trump was in Washington," the agency reports.
Shortly before this call, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance told reporters: Washington recognizes that the issue of ending the war has reached an impasse, and eventually the United States may have to declare that this is not their war, the agency notes.
The telephone conversation between the leaders of Russia and the United States began at 17.38 Moscow time.
