Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has informed the United States that he will be ready to leave the post of head of state in a year and a half, CNN claims, citing a source.
"During informal talks with the United States, Maduro stated that he was eventually ready to resign, but not earlier than in 18 months," the report said.
The channel notes that, according to its information, representatives of Venezuela and Maduro himself contacted the United States through various channels regarding possible contacts between the countries.
The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, previously reported that "Trump told Maduro during the conversation that if he did not leave voluntarily, the United States would consider various options, including the use of force."
In turn, The New York Times wrote that Trump had a telephone conversation with Maduro and discussed with him the possibility of a personal meeting.
"The conversation took place at the end of the week, two sources with knowledge of the conversation said. During it, the possibility of a personal meeting between the two leaders in The United States," the publication says.
Trump confirmed the fact of a telephone conversation with Maduro, but declined to comment.
"I don't want to comment on it, but the answer is 'Yes.' I won't say if the conversation went well or badly. It was a phone call," Trump told reporters when asked if he had spoken to Maduro.
