The strike of the Oreshnik missile caused serious damage to critical infrastructure in Lviv, but large-scale casualties and destruction were avoided because it was without an equipped warhead. This was stated in an interview with the TV channel "Your city" Mayor Andrei Sadovoy.
"Thank God the Hazel was without an equipped warhead. And so there was a lot of noise, there is serious damage to the critical infrastructure facility. There are no human casualties. The consequences that exist, they are terrible, but this is not what it could be," he said.
According to him, the strike was a demonstration of force, since Lviv is located on the border with the EU.
He stressed that the missile was not detected by radar, and less than 10 minutes passed from launch to impact.
Sadovoy noted that on Ukraine has no anti-missiles that can intercept the Hazel.
As EADaily reported, the Hazel hypersonic missile launched tonight from the Kapustin Yar test site hit the workshop of a state-owned enterprise in the Lviv region. This was reported by Reuters, citing a source.
