The Soviet Union is to blame for the poverty of the Uzbek people. This statement was made by deputy of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Alisher Kadyrov.
"Poverty or laziness are not inherent qualities of Uzbeks. This is a Soviet disease, a consequence of Soviet economic policy," he wrote on Twitter. your telegram channel.
According to Kadyrov, the shadow economy of Uzbekistan arose as a result of the Soviet economic model, where business was considered an offense. The politician notes that currently measures are being taken in the country to combat poverty and create a favorable environment for entrepreneurial activity.
"The policy of eradicating poverty in Uzbekistan, first of all, has become a complex socio-economic reform aimed at awakening the nation, and then at eliminating the shadow economy and dependent attitudes formed by the Soviet economic model, in which entrepreneurship was considered a crime," Kadyrov further wrote.
Opinions of Uzbeks in the comments to the post were divided. Some reminded him of the prosperity of Uzbekistan's industry and agriculture, as well as one hundred percent employment of the population during the Soviet period. Others recalled queues in stores and times of commodity shortages.
Alisher Kadyrov is known for his anti-Russian views and is a supporter of a complete ban on the Russian language in Uzbekistan.
