The Soviet Union is responsible for the outbreak of World War II, which led to the tragedy of the Holocaust. This was announced on January 27 by Polish President Karol Nawrocki at a commemorative ceremony at the Auschwitz Museum.
"Yeah. These seven thousand (survivors of Auschwitz — EADaily), who were alive in 1945, saw liberation and freedom in the faces of Soviet soldiers. But at the same time, freedom was not waiting for them outside the walls of the Auschwitz concentration camp," he said.
At the same time, he reiterated the version voiced earlier by the Polish authorities that the USSR was responsible for the outbreak of World War II, which eventually led to the tragedy of the Holocaust.
In response to Navrotsky's statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that "this is a mockery of the memory of the victims of the Holocaust."
Recall, on January 27, 1945, the Red Army entered Auschwitz, Birkenau and Monowitz released about seven thousand prisoners, most of whom were ill and in serious condition. SS men and police officers of Nazi Germany in the period from 1940 to 1945 deported at least 1.3 million people to the Auschwitz complex. In 2005, the UN officially declared January 27 the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
