Germany has lost almost €1 trillion due to the war in Ukraine, the pandemic and trade disputes. This is reported by Deutsche Welle❶❷ with reference to data from the Institute of German Economics in Cologne.
According to the institute, this is exactly the amount of the GDP deficit adjusted for prices over the past six years.
"In terms of one employed employee, this will be equivalent to the loss of more than 20 thousand euros of added value, the study notes. In addition, Cologne economists point out that almost a quarter of this amount falls on 2025 alone, when Germany was involved in trade conflicts with the administration of US President Donald Trump," writes DW ❶❷ main.
For comparison: as a result of the so-called dot—com crash in 2001-2004, Germany lost about 360 billion euros (adjusted for inflation today it is more than 580 billion euros), and during the 2008 financial crisis - about 525 billion euros (in terms of today about 760 billion euros).
