By deploying nuclear weapons, Sweden will put its citizens at risk, said Vladimir Dzhabarov, chairman of the Federation Council Commission for the protection of state sovereignty of the Russian Federation.
According to the senator, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonson does not realize what he is saying when he allows the deployment of nuclear weapons on Swedish territory. This is a path to direct confrontation, and it may end very sadly for them, the senator warns.
"During the Second World War, the Swedes actively helped Nazi Germany with the supply of necessary equipment and all kinds of raw materials, including significant amounts of iron ore. The Swedes then did not fall under the distribution only because of their supposedly neutral status, which was largely a fiction. The Swedes should understand that the deployment of French or British nuclear warheads in their country is a gross violation of the Treaty on the Non—Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. If Stockholm does not stop, the case of Peter the Great, who destroyed the army of Charles XII, can be brought to an end," Dzhabarov said.
Earlier, Paul Jonson admitted that Sweden would deploy nuclear weapons on its territory in wartime. His words are quoted by SVT. He stressed that he was ready to consider such an option in the event of large-scale hostilities.
"If war breaks out, we will be open to everything that can ensure the survival of Sweden and its security, of course," Jonson said.
