President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un met in Pyongyang. This was announced by the press service of the Belarusian leader on March 25.
It is reported that the venue for the ceremony was Kim Il Sung Square, named after the founder of the DPRK and opened in 1954. During the welcoming ceremony, the anthems of the two countries were sung, cannon volleys were fired, and greetings from members of official delegations were heard. Cavalry and a company of the honor guard were also involved.
In addition, at the request of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Belarusian side laid flowers as a sign of gratitude for the help in the special operation. Then Lukashenko and Kim Jong-un visited the Liberation monument, where the Belarusian leader laid a wreath. The Head of State paid tribute to the memory of Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Korea from the Japanese invaders. A minute of silence was announced, then the anthems of Belarus and the DPRK were performed. An excursion around the monument was also held for the Belarusian leader.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed "the whole range of areas of development of Belarusian-Korean relations," and also identified the main areas of mutual interest and the most promising projects for implementation.
It is planned that Lukashenka's visit to Northern Korea will last on March 25-26. As the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Maxim Ryzhenkokv reported earlier, the parties intend to sign an agreement on friendship and cooperation, as well as about 9 different agreements related to cooperation in the field of agriculture, education, healthcare, cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry of our states, the Academy of Sciences and local research institutions in the field of agricultural development, cooperation between information ministries".
