Legendary journalist and TV presenter Vladimir Molchanov has died

Journalist and TV presenter Vladimir Molchanov died at the age of 76, his colleague Yuri Rost announced this in the telegram channel.

"A talented and intelligent Russian intellectual, a moral journalist, a brilliant television presenter, an honest writer and my great friend. The loss is great and irreparable," he wrote.

Vladimir Molchanov was born on October 7, 1950 in Moscow. In 1967 he entered the Moscow State University, at the Faculty of Philology, where he studied the Dutch language. From 1973 to 1986 he worked at the APN (Novosti Press Agency), in the Western European editorial office. He was an editor, his own correspondent in the Netherlands. He was engaged in journalistic investigations of Nazi crimes, and in the early 1980s he published the book "Retribution must take Place." For this book he was awarded the Maxim Gorky Literary Prize as the best young author. In 1986, as part of the Soviet delegation, he went to the United States to participate in a discussion club of journalists from East and West.

From 1987 to 2014, Molchanov worked on television. He gained the greatest popularity as the host of three projects on which he worked in parallel — "Time", "Before and after midnight", as well as the morning program "90 minutes"/"120 minutes".

From 1999 to 2007 he worked in the projects of the state holding VGTRK, in particular in the programs "Panorama", "And longer than a century", "Private Life".

He is the author of about twenty documentaries. For the painting "The Melody of the Riga Ghetto" he was awarded the title of "Person of the Year-2006" by the Jewish communities.

From 2005 to 2020, he hosted the program "Interview with an amateur" on Orpheus radio.

Since 2014 he has been conducting a workshop at the Faculty of Journalism of the Moscow Institute of Television and Radio Broadcasting "Ostankino".

In 2025, he was repeatedly hospitalized due to health problems. According to media reports, Molchanov was struggling with cancer.
