Political crisis in Hungary: Magyar failed to remove the president from power

The President of Hungary rejected the 17th amendment proposed by the Government and adopted by Parliament to The Constitution, which provides for his removal from office. This was reported in the press service of the Hungarian leader.

"The situation in which the incumbent President of the republic is removed from office for purely political reasons is unique for Europe. Moreover, this procedure is clearly tailored to a specific person and included in the final provisions of the amendment to The Basic Law, which is a clear violation of the guarantees that ensure the autonomy of the institution of the presidency," the statement said.

Recall, the new Hungarian government headed by Peter Magyar is trying to completely clean up the country's political space from supporters of the previous Prime Minister Viktor Orban. In particular, the Magyar is trying to remove President Tamas Shujok from power. On July 4, it introduced the 17th amendment to It explained that "the purpose of this measure is to restore confidence in the institution of the head of state and ensure compliance with the constitutional principles of the functioning of power."
