Finland still expels mother and son who oppose the Kremlin. This is reported by the Rulehti publication.

The Supreme Administrative Court of the country refused to consider the complaint of a Russian citizen and her 17-year-old son about the refusal to grant asylum. Now they must leave the Schengen area by the end of July — or they will be expelled to Russia, the newspaper writes.

Mother and son declare that they oppose the Russian leadership, support Ukraine and fear persecution if they return, writes Helsingin Sanomat. According to the woman, her son is approaching military age and she fears a possible new mobilization in Russia.

Before moving to Finland, the family lived for six years on Ukraine. They arrived in 2023 to issue their son a new passport, because after the start of SMO, the Russian consulates on Ukraine stopped working. In Finland, a teenager graduated from high school and enrolled to study as a cook, and his mother worked in the restaurant industry. After the court's refusal, she lost her right to work. It did not help the woman that she provided volunteer assistance to Ukraine — both in Finland and before. According to the Migration Service of Finland (Migri), there is no sufficient reason to believe that it is these applicants in Russia faces serious human rights violations. The department noted that in order to obtain asylum, it is not enough to refer to the general situation in Russia, belonging to the LGBT community, participation in non-public opposition activities, or fear of mobilization. It is necessary to prove the existence of an individual threat that meets the criteria of international protection.

The family declares that to return to Russia does not intend to. Now the mother is trying to decide which country to go to, and hopes that in the future she and my son will be able to come to Finland legally again, for example, on a work visa.

As EADaily reported, in Finland, the mother and son who helped the APU were denied asylum, they are subject to deportation to Russia. This was reported by the Rulehti publication.
