The Iranian army confirmed the death of Brigadier General Majid Kazemi, a Su-24 fighter pilot, during an attack on the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar on March 2.

According to Iran International, the Iranian side said in a statement that the remains of the general will be returned to Iran within the next few hours.

The incident occurred on March 1, 2026. The Iranian army indicates that two Su-24 bombers took off from Shahid Doran airbase in Shiraz on March 2 in response to the "brutal and treacherous attacks" by the United States and Israel. According to the army, the aircraft penetrated through advanced enemy detection systems and several radar positions, after which they began bombing the Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, causing significant damage to it. Kazemi was the pilot of one of the Su-24 fighters involved in the attack on March 2. However, on the way back, both aircraft were hit by enemy air defense systems over the Persian Gulf. Since then, efforts have continued to determine the fate of the pilots.

In a statement, the army said that efforts to determine the fate of the three remaining crew members of the two Su-24s are continuing.
