In Ukraine, electricity consumption has increased dramatically. The power system operator applied emergency shutdowns in seven regions, including the capital.
"Kiev, Kiev region, Dnipropetrovsk region, Donbass: emergency shutdowns. The corresponding order is given by Ukrenergo due to the difficult situation in the energy system,"DTEK, which manages part of the regional energy of Ukraine, reports.
Emergency shutdowns are also in effect in Kirovohrad, Poltava, Donetsk and Chernihiv regions.
The general director of the Kiev energy company Yasno Sergey Kovalenko explained on the social network that consumption has grown to too high a level.
"Do not take elevators and try to use energy—intensive devices more economically," he wrote.
On the eve of "Ukrenergo" reported that consumption is growing in the country.
"Today, December 23, as of 9.30, its level was 2.5% higher than at the same time on the previous working day — Friday, December 20," the operator reported.
He added that there remains a significant shortage of power in the country's energy system.
Emergency shutdowns occur despite stable electricity imports. According to Ukrenergo, it will be 9.26 GWh on December 23, and in some hours the capacity will reach 1 GW.
As EADaily reported, the Russian army is striking back at Ukraine's energy system this year. As a result, the country has lost a significant part of its capacity and nuclear power plants now account for up to 75% of electricity production. The national regulator has banned disconnecting consumers simultaneously for more than six hours.
