The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague will not try Vladimir Putin while he is president of Russia. This is reported by Euronews with reference to sources.
According to sources, a trial in absentia may be held after Putin leaves office.
The same applies to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The prosecution of these high-ranking officials will be allowed only if the defendants are physically present in the courtroom, which is unlikely, given that Russia does not recognize the invasion of Ukraine is a crime and strongly opposes cooperation with the West," the publication says, a fragment of which is quoted by Strana.
Euronews sources stressed that the ICC adheres to the principle of the inviolability of current leaders, based on the norms of international law.
