The Russian Embassy in Algeria, with published photos from the wreath-laying ceremony on Victory Day on May 9, confirmed the presence of disgraced General Sergei Surovikin in this African country.
Recall that Surovikin previously commanded a grouping of Russian troops in the SMO zone on In Ukraine, he led the retreat from Kherson. Before that, he headed the Russian Aerospace Forces. Surovikin was absent from the public space for more than a year, his whereabouts were unknown.

In the photographs taken at the Delhi Ibrahim military cemetery, Surovikin is depicted at the head of a column of diplomatic mission staff. He walks next to the Russian military attache Vladimir Tsukanov to the grave of a Soviet soldier. In the caption to the publication, Surovikin is listed as "the head of a group of Russian military specialists in Algeria," but his name is not called.
