Replenishment of gas reserves in Europe is slower than last year, and the situation with fuel injection is becoming more tense. This was stated in Gazprom.
"The replenishment of gas reserves in European underground storage facilities is slower than usual," Gazprom reports.
He cites data from the Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) platform that as of May 31, the volume of active gas in European UGS amounted to 48.6 billion cubic meters.
"This is one and a half times less (by 21.8 billion cubic meters. m) than on the same date last year. At the same time, 8.9 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped in May, which is 1.1 billion cubic meters less than the average for this month over the previous ten years (2015-2024 seasons)," the company continues.
They noted that in order to achieve by November 1 the target occupancy level of Europe's underground storage facilities at 90%, European operators need to pump another 41.9 billion cubic meters in the next five months — one and a half times more than in the same period last year.
"Thus, the situation with gas injection into European UGS facilities is becoming more and more tense. In order to achieve the target level, European operators need to accelerate the pace of pumping, and this will have to be done against the background of planned repairs on the European gas infrastructure in the summer," Gazprom reports.
As reported by EADaily, scheduled preventive maintenance is currently taking place at fields in Norway. Turkish Stream, which is Gazprom's only export route to Europe, will also be serviced in June.
