Subordinates of US President Donald Trump need to stick to the course of peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict — this is how Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the words of the US President's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg about the Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes deep into Russia.
In an interview with Fox News on September 29, an American civil servant said that the United States does not prevent the Ukrainian Armed Forces from striking, so Kiev should "use the opportunity to deliver deep blows."
"We understand that he is a subordinate of the US president, who spoke in favor of a peaceful settlement of the situation around Ukraine. He did it as part of his election program, told his voters about it, who believed him and had high hopes for him," Channel Five quoted Zakharova as saying.
Trump has repeatedly spoken out about the need for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict and confirmed his words during international negotiations, and all subordinates of the American leader should pursue the same course, Zakharova noted.
In addition, Zakharova noted the importance of diplomacy in finding a solution to the situation between Moscow and Kiev. It is important to take into account the root causes of this crisis, she stressed.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the judgments of US Special Representative Keith Kellogg differ from the official position of Washington.
"Keith Kellogg speaks from absolutely pro—Ukrainian positions, although President Trump always says that he is a mediator, and Ukraine and Russia should decide directly," the minister said.
