On October 13, NATO will begin the annual nuclear military exercises Steadfast Noon ("Steady Noon") with simulated use of nuclear weapons. This was announced today, October 10, by the organization's Secretary General Mark Rutte on the social network X.
"I am at the Volkel Air Base in the Netherlands. This base participates in the NATO Steadfast Noon exercises, which will begin on October 13," the video message says.
Aircraft from all over the Alliance will take part in the exercises, but without the actual use of nuclear weapons.
"We must conduct these exercises to ensure that our nuclear deterrent capability remains as reliable, safe and effective as possible. Then, to send a clear signal to our potential adversaries: we have the will and ability to defend all allies in the face of all threats," the NATO Secretary General added.
