The EU diplomatic Service expressed outrage that the Tajik authorities did not arrest the Russian president during his visit to the country.
"The President of Russia is in In Tajikistan, despite the warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Tajikistan is a state party to the Rome Statute of the ICC and has not fulfilled its obligations under the Statute to execute the arrest warrant," the European Diplomatic service said.
They declared their unwavering support for the ICC.
The day before, the Russian President paid a state visit to Tajikistan. The second Central Asia—Russia summit and a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State were also held there. Upon arrival, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met Vladimir Putin at the plane ramp.
As EADaily reported, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova in mid-March 2023. The ICC claims that they are allegedly "allegedly responsible for the war crime, which consists in the illegal deportation of the population (children) from the occupied territories of Ukraine to The Russian Federation". This decision was sharply criticized by the Russian authorities. The Kremlin even called the very raising of the issue of Putin's arrest warrant "outrageous and unacceptable."
"There are no Ukrainian children kidnapped, as they put it, by Russia. You just need to know this and this should be the starting point when discussing this problem," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
