The Council of the European Union has decided to permanently block Russia's sovereign assets. This is stated in the statement of the Danish Chairmanship in The Council of the EU.

"The Council The EU has approved the indefinite blocking of Russian assets," the statement said.

According to the plan of the European Commission, this step is the first stage for the subsequent expropriation of assets of the Russian Federation. At the same time, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy and Malta announced that they "supported the long-term freezing of Russia's assets," but stressed that "under no circumstances does this vote prejudge their decision on the possible use of Russian assets at the EU summit, which should be taken only at the level of heads of state."

Earlier, the European Commission admitted that Belgium still has objections to the plan to expropriate Russia's assets under the reparations loan scheme.
