Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia is not going to leave the EAEU yet. The Armenian Prime Minister stated this at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
"And as for the EU, you know, this issue is being discussed a lot both at the working level and publicly. You know, last year we adopted a law on the beginning of the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union. And there is a lot of discussion about how much this adoption of this law corresponds to our obligations within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. Both before and after that, we analyzed the contractual framework that exists between the Russian Federation and Armenia and the contractual framework that exists in the Eurasian Economic Union.
And, to be honest, we have not found any violations of the obligations that Armenia has to the Russian Federation and to the Eurasian Economic Union, because the treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union explicitly states how to act if the country decides to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union. By the way, there is nothing there, such regulation that a member can be removed from the organization. We have not informed our partners at the moment that we are going to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union," Pashinyan said.
Putin objected.
"I would like to disagree with you on the main issue. You said that you did not declare an exit. The adoption of the law on the beginning of the procedure for joining another economic organization in fact means a declaration of withdrawal from ours, because staying there and there is incompatible," the Russian leader stressed.
The question of choosing between the EAEU and the EU has not yet matured in Armenia, Pashinyan also added.
As EADaily reported, Armenia needs to decide on joining the EU as soon as possible. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
According to the Russian leader, Russia needs to understand how to build relations with Armenia further.
