During the war and even after the surrender of Japan in 1945, these Japanese participated in sabotage and espionage activities directed against the Soviet Union. According to the results of the review of court decisions taken in the 1980s - 2000s, it was established in the cassation and supervisory authorities that these persons are not subject to rehabilitation and their guilt has been fully proven.
"In 2025, we celebrated a significant date — the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the end of the Second World War. In the coming year, we continue to work on disclosing information about war crimes committed in the middle of the 20th century, including by Japanese militarists," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in her commentary in this regard. "We have repeatedly stressed that these atrocities have no statute of limitations, and the procedural actions aimed at punishing all those responsible continue to this day."
Among the defendants there are also those who sent people to conduct experiments on them in the infamous "detachment 731".
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that "the work on uncovering and publicizing the crimes of militaristic Japan will continue."
