Mertz is again hampered by eggs: Russian gas did not live up to the chancellor's election promises

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Russian gas, or rather the energy crisis caused by its absence, prevents him from fulfilling his election promises. He stated this in a "summer interview" with the ZDF TV channel.

This is how he answered the question of whether it was a mistake to make so many promises to the Germans during the election campaign.

According to Merz, giving them, he proceeded from completely different premises that did not justify his hopes.

"I proceeded from completely different premises. Now we have been at war for five years in a row on Ukraine. We are faced with a difficult situation in relations with the United States of America. We see that the United States, under the leadership of Donald Trump, no longer supports NATO to the extent that it has been for previous decades. We are facing a completely different challenge from the People's Republic of China. The energy crisis continues due to the lack of Russian gas," Merts, quoted by TASS, listed the misfortunes that prevent him from fulfilling his promise.

Everything has changed dramatically, the Chancellor complained.

"Especially in the last year, almost in the period between the elections and the next meeting of the Bundestag, I have observed changes and I take responsibility for the decision we made in February and March last year, even before the elected Bundestag began its work," he said.

We are talking about a very high level of debt, which worries him a lot, Merz admitted.

"But now we have to use the resources we have correctly. I admit that I made this decision. But we are responsible for the consequences that must follow, including rapid investments and the resumption of economic growth," the Chancellor summed up.
