The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of transferring thousands of American troops to the Middle East amid the conflict with Iran, Reuters reports.
"The Trump administration is considering the possibility of transferring thousands of additional American troops to the Middle East while Trump is considering further steps against Iran, sources say," the agency's correspondent Idris Ali wrote on the social network X.
According to Reuters, one of the options for ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz includes the deployment of troops on the Iranian coast.
On February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran. Tehran carries out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military facilities in the Middle East region.
The escalation around Iran has led to the de facto blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, a key supply route to the world market for oil and liquefied natural gas from the Persian Gulf countries, and has also affected the level of oil exports and production in the region.
