Europe had to abandon Russian gas literally "overnight", which caused a painful increase in fuel prices, but it made it possible to overcome "dependence on Moscow".
This statement was made by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her speech in the Australian Parliament, her words are reported by RIA Novosti.
"The rise in fuel prices is painful for our citizens ... We in Europe are rethinking our dependence, especially on Russian gas. There were warning signals, and we learned this lesson in the most difficult way in February 2022," said the European visitor.
For clarity, she invited Australian parliamentarians to present a situation in which the country would have to stop selling iron ore at the same time.
"In a certain sense, this is exactly what we had to do in Europe. Russian gas is banned literally overnight," the head of the EC summed up.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the Head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, pointed out to Australia how to build the "right policy" towards China, and warned against excessive dependence on China.
