"I don't remember anything": Netanyahu appeared in court on several criminal cases

On April 28, a trial began in Israel, in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the accused. He testifies in the district court on several corruption cases at once. The list of charges includes expensive gifts from influential businessmen, attempts to pressure the press and political agreements behind closed doors.

As stated in the story published by Channel Five, Netanyahu is the first acting prime minister in the country's history to testify as a criminal defendant.

"He is the most ruthless politician on the Israeli stage today. There are cases of bribery, fraud and breach of trust against him," said Aaron David Miller, a former US State Department negotiator for the Middle East.

The key charges are of receiving a bribe in the case of lobbying the interests of Bezek, the largest telecommunications group, in exchange for positive coverage of the prime minister's actions on a news portal controlled by the company.

"Today, during the trial, Netanyahu stressed: you understand that I did not start this war in any way and have nothing to do with it, I did not do it in order to stop my trials here in Tel Aviv. Netanyahu basically did not remember anything, and so he answered. And the prosecutor's office insisted that Netanyahu remembers, but does not want to answer. It is clear that he is a little depressed, and he does not like these courts. He does not like this position when he comes to court, he is interrogated, he is in the dock," the story says.

It is not only at home that charges have been brought against Netanyahu. Last year, he received an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for war crimes in the Gaza Strip. But it was the Israeli courts that convinced Netanyahu that they could be postponed forever — as long as the war in the region did not end, the journalists note.

"We haven't completed our task yet. But the world already recognizes our determination to protect not only ourselves, but all of humanity. Little Israel and our great friend the United States carry the entire Western civilization on their shoulders," Netanyahu said.
