Alexandra Golovkina-Dolinske, one of Lithuania's most famous figure skaters, announced that she will now represent Great Britain. This is reported by local media.
According to the 27-year—old athlete, the reason for this decision is disagreements with the leadership of the Lithuanian Figure Skating Federation.
"From now on I will not represent Lithuania — the process of being taken over by the Federation of Great Britain is now underway. I have been performing under the Lithuanian flag for 22 years and have always been proud of it, I am very sorry that I will no longer represent my country. These changes are the consequences of the current situation with the federation. My views on my future career and the views of the federation did not coincide," he said.
The athlete noted that the decision was caused by the fact that the federation deprived her of funding in February 2025. Then she was injured, but she had the best results among figure skaters, she was one of three candidates to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics. However, the federation decided that her future career was not worth funding. At the same time, she chose the UK for a reason, since the figure skater has been living there for 8 years, is engaged in figure skating and works as a coach.
