The United States is exploring the possibility of reducing the size of its military contingent in Germany, US President Donald Trump said on the Truth Social network.
"The United States is studying and considering the possibility of reducing troops in Germany, and a decision will be made soon," he wrote.
The largest European contingent of American troops is located in Germany, it has more than 30 thousand people. The contingent itself covers 35 municipalities and is deployed, in particular, at the Ramstein air base and the headquarters of the US Army in Europe and Africa.
The statement was made by Trump after criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who accused the United States of lacking an "exit strategy" from the war with Iran and said that the American side was "humiliated" during the negotiations, Reuters reports.
In response, Trump said that Merz "doesn't know what he's talking about," and accused him of allowing Iran to possess nuclear weapons, Anadolu writes. At the same time, he added that Germany "feels bad economically and in other areas."
