A strong rumble in the US state of Massachusetts was caused by the entry of a meteor into the Earth's atmosphere, the Associated Press reports, citing experts from the American Meteor Society.
Earlier, local media reported a rumble that was heard throughout the state of Massachusetts.
"The American Meteor Society said that the rumble, which was heard around 14.30 (21.30 Moscow time — ed.), was actually caused by a meteor with a diameter of about 3 feet (0.9 meters), which entered the atmosphere near the border of New Hampshire and Massachusetts, north of Boston," writes the Associated Press.
According to Robert Lunsford, the head of the Association's fireball observation program, the meteor most likely burned up in the atmosphere or fell into the ocean.
